I have purchased a Gateway 2000 33 mhz tower box; to arrive in about
2 weeks - and was wondering if anyone has had any problem using
this machine with an Adaptec 1542B in conjunction with a TSENG 4000
VGA card - or has any other problems to report regarding this box.
If you know _for sure_ this is a terrible box to run UNIX on; let me
know, so I can cancel my order (and not incur the $50.00 shipping fee.)

Gateway uses various brands of components, and they seem to be fairly accomodating. Within some limits you can specify the components they use in constructing a system for you. I suspect, that with careful selection on your part, that Gateway will put together a good, Unix capable, system for you. Since they have the 30-day return policy, it would be wise to purchase your Unix first so that you have it when the system arrives. I'd suggest that you delay your order with Gateway and get better organized. (Other vendors might get a little testy if you tried to muck with a pending order, but I doubt Gateway will.) -- Richard Foulk richard@pegasus.com
