I just got some product information I requested from ESIX Computer about their SysVr4 offering, and must say I'm impressed if it's as good as they say it is. It has an abundant variety of developer support libraries and applications, and its price is *way* lower than SCO's (assuming you want the TCP/IP facilities which are included with ESIX but which cost extra $$$ from SCO). I may start pushing my company to switch from SCO to ESIX for in-house development. SCO, however, still has the lion's share of the System-V market. I'd be interested in hearing from people who have used this system at their companies. My interest is in finding out to whom ESIX is targeting its systems, from a business perspective. My company mostly sells its products to big commercial establishments like Sears and Marriott, so I'm more interested in finding out if ESIX has or is courting huge business customers than whether it's a "great product". (I often lament this fact: just because something is *better* doesn't mean it'll *sell*. Often the opposite is true. Look at MS-DOS...) To read the documentation from ESIX is to believe that the SysVr3 companies like SCO are going to be left out in the cold. Soon. I'll post a summary of e-mail responses. -rich
