Is there any ftp site where X386 is organized as above? Everywhere I
looked (uunet, export.lcs), it seems that only older (version 1.0?)
binaries are available. I have seen a similar questions posted in
this news group a few days ago. Can someone with X386 experience post
a definite roadmap on how to install X386?

Questions I would like to see answered:

. Which distribution files are needed?

. Are the "fonts", "man", "inc" and "lib" "bin" files unchanged since
  version 1.0?

. Are the server binaries available or you have to rebuild from the
source for each OS (Esix ISC etc)?

. Who should use which version of the server (1.1 1.1a 1.1b)?
From a posting by Thomas Roell, I understand that 1.1b is still beta.
Is that why the binaries are not available?

I just got the lastest (beta versions of 1.1b - 1.1a is there, too,
I think) from piggy - 128.111.72.50.

The source for the 1.1b server is there. However, the older
distribution of X386 also had the core XR14 ready to install (includes,
libs, man pages etc). In addition, there was also a collection of
binaries for popular xclients.

I just installed the files available from uunet ( X/contrib2/386ix* )
and the X3861.1a update with 1.1a binary version of the server. I am
glad to report that almost everything worked with very little work from
my part. I am running ISC 2.2, with a Diamond SpeedStar + Sony 1304.

Question:

1. Are the libs and xclients in the uunet distribution up to date with
the "master" archive at muechen.informatik? I have at least one
problem with the version I have -- xclock bombs every time I run it.

2. Is there a binary for the 1.1b server anywhere?
