[I don't understand this blank line thing, but I'll throw this in anyway ] I'm interested in the packet radio situation on 2meters on the East Coast. In particular, what's possible, what's currently implemented, and how much does it take to get started in this mode. I've read several articles in QST about people using commonly available packet radio boards to interface terminals to their radios, but these only seem to be for talking to other amateurs directly, (like RTTY but more complex). I'm more interested in computer based applications, such as bulletin boards, networks, repeaters, etc. Also, what baud rates are commonly used, and what protocols are in the modems used for packet. I have heard about baud rates from 300 to 4800, it would seem at least 2 or 3 protocols would exist... -JCP- "Think of it as Evolution in Action"

You can get a lot of information from the ARRL on the current state of Amateur Packet Radio. They are probably your best first stop, as they have reprints of a number of interesting papers to send out. Some of the individuals involved out here have been very helpful in disseminating information, but as individuals they tend to get inundated with requests for info, whereas the League is set up for this kind of thing. 73, John Sangster, W3IKG jhs at mitre-bedford
