[comp.unix.sysv386] X386 1.1b

roell@informatik.tu-muenchen.de (Thomas Roell) (06/03/91)

To make it short X386 1.1b is now OFFICIALLY available:

131.159.8.35, /pub/i386/X11R4

	 808424 Jun 3 17:32 X386.1.1b.tar.Z
	3566993 Jun 3 11:32 X386core.SVR4.tar.Z

The first file are the sources and the second the binaries for SVR4. Sorry,
there are no binaries for SVR3.2 anymore. But everybody is welcome to
compile X386 1.1b and give me the binaries.

Bugs fixed:

	- Now ALL Paradise VGAs should run porperly.
	- The main racecondition for the Xqueue driver has been fixed.
	- The shared libs do now compile with normal cc.
	- The Et3000/Et4000 bug for SCO has been fixed (was indeed a kernel
          bug of SCO)

I note that these are available on uunet now, for most people in the US.
For those in Southern California, I have these two files (and the fonts)
available on piggy.ucsb.edu (128.111.72.50), in the directory /pub/X386.

For those of you still using the X server that came with your system, take a
chance and try this package out. It really is a very good system, and you
will probably be surprised at many features, especially the ability to use
non-standard resolutions, and have virtual root window sizes larger than
displayed, and stored in your video card's extra memory. It's a bit of work
to get things set up, but it is well worth it.

(By the way, are there people out there who would don't have ftp access that
would like to get this on QIC150 tape? Send me mail)
