[net.ham-radio] comments on tuners for long wires and rcvrs

For general coverage listening, I use a "T" network tuner on my 30
foot vertical wire (wire runs direct to the rcvr, not thru coax).

For a tuner for random wires a simple T or L network will work fine,
such as the low-cost MFJ units. It won't matter to the rcvr if it
sees 50 or 100 ohms, but if the antenna is up around 500 to several
kilohms, which it will be at some frequencies, the tuner will make
quite a difference. This is especially true of the newer rcvrs
like the R-1000's and those that have a REAL 50 ohm input.
