[comp.unix.sysv386] PCOMM hangs modem driver

amc@wlv.imsd.contel.com (Allen M. Cohen) (06/20/91)

I'm using PCOMM 1.2.10 with ISC unix 2.0.
About once in 5 times, pcomm will not disconnect and/or exit.
The pcomm program freezes and so does my login session.
kill -9 <pcomm pid> does nothing. We must reboot!
I can't continue to use pcomm until this is resolved, and I really
hate to go back to kermit!
Help...

This sounds like a bug I found in Dell's version of SVR4... There is a
bug in the ldterm streams emulation of termio(7) that prevents the
TIXONC ioctl() from working. Until there is a fix (rumored to be in
SVR4v3), I just changed Pcomm's flow control to NONE.

Buy Prefessional YAM from Omen Tech. That is the best solution (since
you are running ISC it will work for you). This isn't free like pcomm,
but it works and works well. The only problem I have found with Pro-YAM
is the phones.t file needs to be 98% rewritten if you have a high
speed modem, but it is easy enough to do (about 30 minutes time is all
it took me).

The voice number there at Omen is 503 621-3406, and they will ship
COD last I checked.

(I have no connection to Omen Tech other than as a YAM owner and user)
