Hi! I am not sure this is the correct group to be asking this question, but here I go anyway: I am interested in incorporating graphics capabilities into my MINIX kernel (MINIX is a UNIX feel-alike OS which runs on personal computers). To that effect, I was wondering how are graphics done (at the lowest level) on unix boxes, like the sun workstations, for instance. That is, I would like to know how are the screen drivers implemented. Is the screen just a normal special device to which one (or root) can write to produce the bitmap, or are there special system calls to do the plotting, or how is it done? I would appreciate if you could mail me any info you have on this subject, or pointers to where such info can be found. Thanks a lot! Francisco Figueirido e-mail: figuei@lutece.rutgers.edu
