[net.ham-radio] MARCE post-mortem

karn@mouton.UUCP (10/19/84)

The MARCE 007 STS-41G canister was removed from the shuttle cargo bay and checked at KSC today. When power was applied the experime
nt came on and everything indicated nominal. Ed Stluka informed ARRL that it appears there was an in-flight power up anomaly. This
is good news because if further checks give the experiment in the canister a clean bill of health there will be a possibility of a
future re-flight.
The Goddard Space Flight Center was assigned the task of finding the cause of the power-up anomaly. The power up readings at turn o
n today were: Time 0000, Status 18, T1 081, T2 082, T3 082, T4 083, T5 082, T6 081, V1 202, I 023, P 247. All readings nominal.
During flight the APC controller was programed to turn the A, B and C relays ON. Lights on the controller indicated that all relays
had closed. At the end of the experiment period the APC controller was programed to turn the relays off but it indicated that the
relays were already OFF. Kathryn Sullivan noted the anomaly in her in-flight log.
More news will be carried on the AMSAT nets and W1AW bulletins.
