                    TECHNOLOGY REVIEW TUTORIAL

                 INTERACTIVE APPLICATION BUILDERS

At the 5th annual Technical Conference on the X Window System, January 14-16,
1991, the program committee is sponsoring a tutorial to review currently
available direct manipulation application builder technology. Knowledgable
technical speakers from academia and industry are invited to give an overview
of the technology of an existing system or product.

This tutorial is intended for a technical audience interested in using rather
than implementing a direct manipulation application builder. Talks should
highlight relevant technology issues including the following:

o coverage (e.g. static layout, interface dynamics, application logic)
o facilities (e.g. constraints, extensibility, graphics, database)
o test/edit support (builder to code and code to builder)
o output (e.g. OSF/Motif, OPEN LOOK; color, sound)
o input (e.g. support beyond the mouse)
o language support (e.g. C/C++ output; builder to code and code to builder)
    o runtime support, client-server capability

Slides of the interface are encouraged. If time permits, short videos
would be very desirable.

The technical nature of the MIT X Technical Conference is jealously guarded
by the program committee. Marketing information may be provided in handouts.

The following information should be included in your application:

Name, title, affiliation, a synopsis of the technology to be
discussed, a description of the speaker's relationship to the
work, contact information (net and postal address, phone number,
fax number if any), and A/V facilities desired.

The time available for each presentation will depend on the number of
applications accepted by the committee. Applications will be judged
on technical interest and qualifications of the speaker. Speakers
should have had technical role with the product or system and be
able to answer detailed technical questions about it. The deadline
for submission is November 4; receipt will be acknowledged. However,
the program committee will not wait for this deadline before making
selections for this tutorial. Apply early.

No tutorial honorarium is paid, but we do cover the cost of printing
tutorial notes submitted in advance.
