HP Unveils Distributed Computing Breakthrough; Announces HP SharedX HP SharedX, a distributed-computing software product that allows geographically separated work groups to view and modify information simultaneously on their UNIX-system-based workstations and X terminals was unveiled today. HP SharedX is believed to be the first product that allows real-time communication among two or more persons in distributed-computing environments. While facilitating the sharing of windows between UNIX-system- based workstations and X terminals connected via a network, HP SharedX permits remote users to view information and input to the window as if they were looking over one another's shoulders. HP SharedX software is comprised of two parts -- the shared extension to X and the user interface. The shared extension to X retransmits the X protocol from the application to the remote user's X server. The OSF/Motif-based user interface allows the sender to manage the shared session, choose what will be shared and with whom and control which receivers may provide input to the shared windows. HP SharedX software is supported on the HP-UX operating system.

If I'm improperly interpreting this or if I'm just out of line, please flame me, but ... Wasn't that awfully close to a product announcement? It strikes me that comp.newprod would have been a much better place to post the announcement ... Casey
