Dorothy..

I tried to mail back to you but couldn't so I thought I'd post it
here hoping you'd see it.

I don't recall the FBI agent's name (I'm working on that through the
DPMA) but he was from a branch office in either Hickory or Asheville
NC. As for the FDLE survey, he did say it was commissioned by the
state of Florida and not by the FBI. The 1300 respondants included 700
or so law enforcement officers, 20 of the state's AGs and the balance
being from private industry. Most of the information covered ATMs
and credit-debit card fraud (forged cards and stolen PINs) but he did
briefly mention computer system security but because it tends to be
a problem viewed differently from site to site, it makes any sort
of uniform enforcement of the existing laws difficult (his words).
He cited the fact that since most sys_admins want to allow as much
freedom as possible on their systems, they are courting diaster. In
addition, he mentioned that the difficulty in assessing actual dollar
amounts and underlying motivation for security breeches along with
the reluctance of many companies to disclose such problems as
hampering the prosecution of anyone caught.

He had mentioned something about a joint venture with the SS to pursue
those who tresspass on systems. Due to time constraints, however,
there was no question/answer period. So I found nothing really worth-
while in his rather abbreviated presentation.

When I get more info on this I'll get it to you, if you like.
