mnemonic@eff.org (Mike Godwin) (10/29/90)
Recently, discussions on comp.org.eff.talk have suggested the following: That, since EFF has not publicized any involvement in certain cases, it follows that the EFF is uninterested in those cases, or that the organization regards the defendants involved (if the cases are criminal cases) as guilty. In fact, the Electronic Frontier Foundation is either involved with or otherwise interested in many of the cases you read about here and elsewhere. Often, it's not in a particular individual's legal interest to have the details of his or her case, including EFF's involvement, discussed in public. Further, as a practical matter, if we detailed every action we took, we wouldn't have time to do anything, as we'd be too busy writing about it. Please don't assume that a computer-crime defendant is guilty merely because we haven't said we're assisting in his or her defense. And please don't assume that we're inactive simply because we haven't issued a press release lately. In the coming weeks and months, we'll be able to announce new developments in our efforts to expand civil-liberties protections on the electronic frontier. In the meantime, we ask you to be patient with us--we'll be letting our supporters know what we're up to as soon as we can. Thanks for your patience. --Mike -- Mike Godwin, (617) 864-0665 |"If the doors of perception were cleansed mnemonic@well.sf.ca.us | every thing would appear to man as it is, Electronic Frontier | infinite."
