First: I'm seeing a LOT of duplicated messages here on SMOF. Is this fixable?
Re TRW: My understanding is that it is not difficult, as crackers
measure these things, to get read-only access to their database. Making an
unauthorized change is much harder.
Re CD-ROM: Brad Templeton asks if this is publishing. Well, there are
those who would say that it's not, but these people are no friends of freedom
of the press. Anything that you want to say yourself, in whatever form, is
speech; anything that you want to copy and distribute, in whatever form, is
the press. If you have a problem with content type X, deal with it by dealing
with the content, not by asking whether the form is entitled to protection! In
this case, go after Lotus for invasion of privacy.
Re the Len Rose amicus brief: I think that was authored mainly by
Sharon Beckman, who has a real talent for that kind of thing.
Re questions about the raid: Considering some of the details of the
damage, it is certainly possible that it was deliberate. But almost everything
that happened is equally consistent with idiocy. And I do say "almost."
There was some minor vandalism of our building while the SS was in possession.
