qst de k9eui hr dx bulletin nr 40 from arrl headquarters newington ct november 2 1984 to all radio amateurs bt mellish reef. the down under dxers club dxpedition headed by vk2wu apparently left mellish reef last monday, five days ahead of schedule. vk9mr was worked thhroughout north america on 15, 20 and 40 meters during the contest last weekend, and by a lucky few on 80 and 160 meters. qsl to vk2wu. 160 meters. several rare stations showed up last weekend and are still active this week on top band. watch for d44bc, 5w1ej, wb0miv/8r1 and kj9w/kh2. also, the excellent transequatorial conditions experienced for the last six weeks are beginning to deteriorate. china. by4aa has been trying 80 meter ssb on a regular basis. look for operators john and chou on 3795 khz, especially on thursdays in the company of du9rg. propagation. 160 and 80 meters have been very quiet lately, and many weak signals are copyable. 40 and 20 meters still appear to be suffering from recent solar storms, as many signals have unusual flutter. good long path openings have been experienced at both sunrise and sunset on 40 meters, with many zone 17 and 18 stations worked by east coast u.s. stations on the long path around 11 to 1200z. the solar flux continues to decrease as we head toward the bottom of cycle 21. sao tome. our latest rumor says that ps7abt/s9 was in sao tome but was asked to qrt by local authorities. no official word. papua new guinea. jim, p29js, continues active three or four days per week on 40 meters from 11 to 1300z. after conditions fade, jim tries 80 or 160 meters. jim plans to be active for one more year. philippines. karl, k4yt, was last heard as k4yt/du9 during the cq ww contest. qsl to ke3a. taiwan. another expedition to taiwan is planned for late november, this time by a group from washington, dc. organized by barry goldwater, k7uga. the group hopes for an 80 meter ((garble)). operation will probably be as bv0bg and will include the cq ww cw contest. south sandwich. several rumors have been heard about operation this month or next from south sandwich in the atlantic ocean. watch for either 4k1i or vp8asr or g4ghp/vp8. no confirmation has been received about any of these operations. more information will be available in future bulletins as we receive it. salvador. members of the radio club ysdx will operate hu1dx and hu11fi from november 2 through 11 in conjunction with the xi international fair being held in san salvador. ar
