[comp.org.eff.talk] Greg Alt

If you were to make Greg Alt a trademark of Greg Alt Ltd., they could
theoretically claim free use by using your name and not your company's. If,
on the other hand, you played a mean guitar, you could talk to Billy
Joel(R)'s law firm.

When the Goodwill(tm) games were held in Seattle they were very picky
about who could use the name "Goodwill". Some radio station found a guy
in the phonebook named Goodwill and got him to sponsor some events so
that they could use the name without paying for it.

Today's (3/28) New York Times details a Supreme Court decision that
strikes down copyright protection for a telephone book on the grounds
that the work lacks "originality."
