[net.ham-radio] advice wanted on mounting a beam

cly@cbdkc1.UUCP (Carl Yaffey) (11/19/84)

I'm considering putting up a small triband beam but don't want
to buy a tower. I would also like to avoid holes in my roof and walls.
I would like to mount it on my chimney, but don't know if this
is a good idea given the weight and windload (although the chimney
IS fairly sturdy). Any ideas, suggestions, hints? Is there a
GOOD chimney mount kit available? The antenna would end up at about
the 30 foot level. Is this too low for decent 20 meter performance?
Any opinions as to the "best" small tribander (Moseley, Cushcraft,
Hustler, Hy-gain) ? Would a quad be a better choice?
