[comp.org.eff.talk] Cyberspace Timeline Information Request

** Request for Cyberspace Timeline Submissions **

Greetings!

As indicated by the subject, I am sorting through materials to
put together what I hope will be a rather comprehensive timeline
overview of the development and issues affecting Cyberspace and
am interested in contributions from the net to help insure this
project is as comprehensive and accurate as possible.

As a former journalism major switched to MIS, I elected to take
an upper-level journalism class, "History of Mass Communications,"
as an elective since I personally believe it has considerable bearing
upon my professional interests (not to mention the professor is one
of our university's finest).

Since it's quite evident that history is again repeating itself
(with issues like the Secret Service confiscating computer equipment
paralleling the confiscation of printing presses in the early 1700s,
and early electronic newsletters mirroring the beginning of printed
newspapers in both England and the United States), it is my objective
to provide an accurate recent history to my classmates in hope that
upon entering the communications industry, they will have greater
understanding of the value of a free Cyberspace.

So far, I've been incorporating materials available at eff.org via
anonymous FTP, but I am interested in your input so that the final
product will be a comprehensive and accurate timeline.

What topics will be of interest in this timeline? Naturally, legal
issues such as the Steve Jackson Games situation and other battles
are of interest. Items like FCC rulings, establishment of networks,
corporate involvement in cyperspace-related developments (first ATM
machine installed, etc.), etc. are also of interest. Essentially,
I'm looking for items having a bearing on the development of Cyberspace.

In fact, if you have an "off-the-wall" submission that you question
it's value in the timeline, please submit it as well. References to
publically available materials are also welcome.

I personally thank you for your interest. If there is an interest in
making the timeline available through anonymous FTP, I will gladly
submit the postscript file to any site administator requesting it.
