In an attempt to make use of some extra video monitors in the office, as well as to make some 50Hz software work (and perhaps to be the first post in this newsgroup) I spent some time making cables to go from my ST to a Sony CPD-1302 Multiscan (Sony's equivalent to NEC's MultiSync) and a Sony PVM-1271Q monitor. I first tried with the 1302, which has a standard VGA nine-pin input. I connected Sony pins 1, 2 and 6 to Atari ground, Sony red, green, and blue to Atari red, green, and blue, and Sony horizontal and vertical sync to Atari horizontal and vertical sync. No picture. The Sony manual states that "every polarity is acceptable at pin #8 and #9 (horizontal and vertical syncs). Any ideas why she won't work? It was suggested to me that Atari's idea of sync is different from Sony's and that I should make a composite sync by AND'ing the horizontal and vertical, then attach to Sony's composite sync (which is also pin #8). Can anyone shed any light on this? I then made a second cable, going from the nine-pin end of the first cable to a DB-25 for the Sony PVM-1271Q, a professional video monitor supporting PAL, SECAM, NTSC, NTSC 4.43, and digital or analog RGB signals. I routed the signals I mentioned earlier to the appropriate pins, and upon booting found a picture which rolled vertically (and couldn't be frozen within the range of the vertical hold control). This at least told me that the first part of the cable (Atari to nine-pin) was working. When I put in a 50Hz demo, the screen roll rate changed enough so I could stop the rolling, but the monitor wouldn't "lock on" to the picture - it would continue to roll to some degree. I can't find anywhere in the PVM-1271Q documentation that it is actually a multi-scan monitor, especially since there are separate buttons to select the various video modes (and a bazillion different inputs on the back) - would the rolling indicate that this monitor is not capable of properly displaying ST video? -- ################################################################################ # Bill Sheppard -- bill@mwca.microware.com -- {uunet, sun}!mcrware!mwca!bill # # Microware Systems Corporation --- OS-9: Seven generations beyond __/_!! # #######Opinions expressed are my own, though you'd be wise to adopt them!#######
