[comp.sys.atari.st.tech] Yet another

D.C.Halliday@newcastle.ac.uk (D.C. Halliday) (08/11/90)

Having almost solved the consistent write error fault by changing my STE. I now
have another problem I hope someone out there can help with.

The problem is that when I boot the STE (leaving plenty of time for drive to
run to speed) Gemdos does not recognise my flopies, sometimes (usually when not
quite waiting long enough for the HD to build up speed) no icons for A or B
will be seen on the desktop. The other times the icons appear but when clicked
on I get the message 'Drive not known to GDOS.' The flopies respond as normal
after I have reset the computer.

The setup is STE (2meg), ICD host addapter (advantage plus), segate ST277N-1
(or is it ST177N-1?) anyway its the 5 1/2 inch version.

I formatted the drive with a very resent verion of the ICD utils, but ran
Bootfix just in case.

Finally I have considered one solution, write an auto folder program to check
the existance of A and if it is not found then perform a reboot. But is there a
better way and if not has anybody written such a prog yet?

Many Thanks,

Dave H.
