[comp.sys.atari.st.tech] Something is WARMING in my Mega

jackin@vehka.uta.fi (Markku M{enp{{) (08/23/90)

I seem to have problem with my Mega. After a few hours work
my Mega (2) starts to act weird. Few of the symptoms :

	- ususal crashes with 2,4..30 (or so) bombs
	- screen goes white, but the program is still working
only I can't see it. If the program updates screen/window etc.
it will be OK for a while.
	- there are other, but as I usually go very near of nervous
breakdown when these things happen my mind mercifully forgets
	them :-)

The time before weirdness starts is relative to the space between the
Mega and my desk (more airspace, more time).

Any suggestions ? I can replace quite a few components myself and if
I can't my friends can.

Thanks,
Markku (jackin@vehka.uta.fi)

My Mega 2 had the very similar problems from the start, especially on warm
days. I "solved" the problem at first by allowing lots of air space around
the computer. When the 6-chip TOS 1.4 ROM set was installed the problem could
no longer be ignored. The dealer solved it by replacing some low-power
Schottky drivers with some standard Schottky drivers. Sorry, it's been
about a year and I can't remember exactly what parts were replaced. It
did fix the problem "for good", though.
