[comp.sys.atari.st.tech] Memory Expansion with SIMMs

greg@cheers.Bungi.COM (Greg Onufer) (09/12/90)

I sort of followed the discussion onusing SIMMs a while ago but
don't think anyone ever posted anything definitive. I have a
couple of 1Mb and 256kb SIMMs that I would like to stuff into
my 1040ST since 1Mb is a little constrictive :-) Anybody have any
advice?

Cheers!greg

You can get JRI's SIMM module upgrade. I think it's around $140
retail. With an extra $40 or so, you can have the 4096-color
palette. If you want a number for a place to get the board, leave me
e-mail.

BTW, where'd you buy your SIMMs?

ELKCO Corporation
800-24-ELKCO MC, VISA
1 meg SIMMs $49

I ordered SIMMs from these guys. The $49 is for 80ns, $50 for 70ns ones.
This was the cheapest price I found for anything less than (or equal to)
120ns. The SIMMs arrived the next day! There was a 3% credit card charge
:( and a $6 shipping charge but it was still the cheapest price I found.

My STe still hasn't arrived. I will post if I have any problems with
the chips once I get the STe and can test them.

In the August issue of ST Informer page 7 there is an add for
the new Simms board $119.95US for the board itself. Therefore
with this board you can plug in your existing simms and upgrade
to 2.5 to 4meg etc. It fits neatly between the power supply and the
internal disk drive and uses power from your disk drive. For those
without spare simm board they can be bought cheaply in Toronto if
anyone wants some store names just send me mail. The number to
call for this simm board is Trinformation call collect (818)363-1004.
If I were upgrading my memory I would only use Simms now that they
are available as this board is eady to install so any bozo can now
upgrade his ST and plug in Simm boards.

I have written one article on the Simm board upgrade so I better
add what else it offers besides memory expansion. First off JRI
Technologies is offering a Simms Upgrade Board for $119.95 US. through
TriInformation P.O. Box 5027, West Hills CA. USA. Call collect (818)
363-1004. This is the best and easiest board to upgrade memory in your
existing ST. Not only is it easy to buy Simm boards in Toronto etc but
the upgrade offers an additional enhancement I forget to mention in the
last article for $30 dollars more you can ask them to send an extra
video shifter chip that makes your ST have 4096 colours compatable.
You dont need this chip but its nice to have the extra colour display.
