800 MHz Land Mobile Monitoring Using a TV I can monitor some of the land mobile services on the 800 MHz band by tuning my Zenith Space Command 19" television set to channel 79. The bandwidth of the TV is really too wide, permitting simultaneous reception of several signals, but this is actually useful during times of little activity. My TV has no squelch so listening to the white noise becomes fatiguing. Aren't there some TV's with squelch (muting)? Has anyone else tried this? -- =============================================================================== Bob Parnass, Bell Telephone Laboratories - ihnp4!ihu1h!parnass - (312)979-5414

When I lived in Naperville, I could also detect cellular radio signals on a UHF TV. However, not only is the audio bandwidth too wide, but a typical TV set depends on the presence of a strong video carrier 4.5 MHz below the audio carrier in order to provide the subcarrier through AM detection that the sound discriminator needs.
