[comp.sys.atari.st.tech] Syquest hard drives

bointon@kcl-cs.UUCP (Marcus Barnaby Bointon) (10/12/90)

Hello there!

I recently attempted to install a Syquest SQ555 removable 44m hard drive.
I was using a GE-soft host. Everything seemed to work perfectly (it's a very
nice drive) until my C drive started going flaky, beginning in the Auto folder.
Drives D and E were unharmed. This error was repeatable and consistent- Similar
effects could be induced in my other drive (seagate st157n) if the syquest was
plugged in simultaneously. The seagate works fine by itself!

I am just off to buy a Quamtum 11ms (yup that's right, 11!) 40M drive, and I'm
hoping that the two will work together.

Does anyone have any idea why or what this error could be?
The installing software could not find any bad sectors, and the DMA/SCSI
addresses seemed to be working fine. The effects were confined to drive C
whatever the order of connection or address.

Any help would be much appreciated!
