[comp.sys.atari.st.tech] Sampled Sound on Old STs

Anyone have source code for playing sound samples on old STs?  I can easily
play 'em on STEs, but I'd like to write a program that runs (albeit not as well)
on old STs too.

P.S.  I imagine it's a trick with using all three channels to set to neither
tone nor noise and varying the volume to generate sound, but I'd like to
see code because I don't know how to use the timers, either.
