[comp.sys.atari.st.tech] Looking for Rest-Proof RAM disk for Mega 4 ST

ralph@laas.fr (Ralph P. Sobek) (11/13/90)

When I had a 1040 ST I used to use etrnl2.prg and was quite satisfied
with it. I now have a Mega 4 ST and it has become unusable! (I do
remember the net discussions concerning the proper test for 4 Mb.)

I have recovered etrnl3/4.s - a version of resizable reset-proof
ram-drive modified to work also on Mega4 - that was posted to
comp.sources.atari.st (Volume 2, Issue 85) by Michal Jaegermann. I
have *not* been able to assemble this on my machine. I have both
Sozobon jas and GNU gas. Not being an assembly language person I am
not interpreting very well the tons of diagnostic messages that these
assemblers provide. Do I need another assembler? Or do I just need
to know how to massage the source code? I have tried to contact
Michal Jaegermann (mj@myrias.COM) but have been unsuccessful.

Since I've been a successful user of etrnl2, I would appreciate to get
etrnl3 to work. Otherwise, I'd love to hear about RAM disks that work
on Mega 4 Sts. For the moment I am using the non reset-proof SI_RAM
desk accessory.

Thanks,

I know about Edisk by Volker Brandt. It claims to support up to 4 MB (could
not test it with a 1 MB unit only :-(), is reset-resident and configurable.
I just looked through the index of the panarthea archive server but it is
not there. If there are enough requests I could post it.
