Hello everyone, I'm thinking about adding some more memory to my 1040ST, and I was wondering if those of you who have done so in the past would share their experiences here. Is there any recommendations as to what products are reliable and which ones are not (i.e., Zram, JRI, etc). Thanks, -- Javier Henderson, N6VBG system@n6vbg.hamavnet.com {simpact,asylum,elroy}!hamavnet!n6vbg!system

I am pleased with the upgrade, it appears solid and has worked fine in the 520STFM I have it installed in, but there are a few cautions. The company that manufacturers the board offers a one year warranty for the board if they install it. However, a warranty is only as good as the company that backs it up. Simply put, their customer service is piss-poor. When I purchased the board, I was assured the 4 meg board fit into my 520ST old style machine. I shipped my machine to california, where they proceeded to stuff the 4meg board into the machine. The machine was returned to me, and promptly failed a couple of days later. A call to customer service informed me that the 3-D 4meg board was not designed to go into the old style 520 (somehting the salesperson assured me, at WAACE in October, that it did.). I shipped the 520ST and the STFM to California, where, having forgotten my original instructions, installed the RAM chips on the top rather than the bottom of the board, thereby requireing that I take the machie to a local dealer to get the board upgraded to 4meg from the current 2.5 meg. So, if you buy your board, buy it from and have it installed by a dealer. Don't ship it to Zubair. The entire debacle was entirely Zubair's fault (first they sold me the wrong board, then they installed(!!!) the thing, and their only offer of recompense for my trouble was that they would re-install the board for free, not even pay for shipping the things! I find that many ST products are sold by people who may be having a hard time of it, as there aren't alot of ST's in teh U.S., and many take their frustrations out on their customers (Toad, Best Products, and Gadgets are of course exceptions to this rule, but then, I hear they're all doing quite well so they have no reason to be unfriendly...) . -- Patrick B.
