[comp.sys.atari.st.tech] Memory upgrade - old 520ST

reyy@vax5.cit.cornell.edu (12/29/90)

I'm sorry to bring up such a talked-about issue,
but this is yet another request for memory upgrade
info.
Okay, I've got an old-style 520ST. External Disk
drive. Supposedly the Zubair Z-RAM/2.5 will work
for me. Does anyone know if I am making the correct
assumption? (anything I should know?)
Also, that MMU that I need, I opened my ST up and
there are 4 chips that are CO2[something]-38
It's the 38 I want, right? (but one is a -38A ...?)

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Please respond
via e-mail. Thanks in advance!

(Sorry, I planned to E-mail this, but I lost the original address)

Yes, the 2.5 one should work for you. The 4 meg one WILL NOT work. I have
returned mine and am waiting for the 2.5 in exchange. The 3-D/4MEG works,
but you can't put the back on at all, even with only 2 meg installed.
It is just too big for your machine.

You want the CO25912-38, not the CO100109-001. The later can only address up
to 1 Meg. and is only in the newer machines. I don't know about the -A, but
it seems ok.

My 2 meg board should be here in another week or so, I can say for sure then,
but I am reasonably certain it will work now.

If you want more 'help' with the Zubair board, just ask. (E-mail's best)
