[comp.sys.atari.st.tech] Internal Hard Drive for Mega

ronw@cbnewsk.att.com (ronald.g.wolenty) (12/27/90)

Has anyone installed an internal hard drive in their Mega? Are there
any reccomendations of type/supplier?

I now that alot of people out there have put those in, my question is
Do you get a connector that allows you to hook up any SCSI drive off
the back of your Mega? Iknow that it should work if the host adapter follows
the starndard SCSI implementation, however which one will allow you to use a
17 foot scsi cable, or multiple devices off an internal HA? Has anyone done
any similar configuration?

I think that reposting to the net is appropriate.

I don't know the answer to your question, but I have heard of some
problems with it. Sometimes the external Acsi connection is rendered
useless for the laser printer etc.. FYI, SCSI cables are at most 6'
(six feet) long, with short stub connectors extra (6" <six inches> or
so, I don't remember this spec so well), set up as a bus.

e.g.

|--------|--------|--------|--------|--------|-------|-------|

(where '|' is a stub connector and '---' is the cable, 8 devices,
including the host adaptor max)

So scale back your expectations a little ok? 8-)

Actually, the correct values are 6 and 0.1 meters, respectively.
(I cheated, however -- I looked it up in the ANSI standard).

Whether or not this works for your drive and controller is left as a
exercise for the student....

OOPS! *Blush*. I cheated worse, and relied on my very faulty memory,
instead of looking it up (I have second hand refs , not the real stuff).
Thus, the original poster's 17 ft expectations were quite realistic.
Thanks for letting me off easy 8-) 8-).

I promise to be accurate in future postings,
I promise to be....
