[comp.sys.atari.st.tech] DESKTOP.INF File extentions

neil@cs.hw.ac.uk (Neil Forsyth) (01/18/91)

This has probably been mentioned before but ...

Wouldn't it be a nice idea if Atari were to assign a desktop info file
entry to application use.

eg. #+ APID PR#1 PR#2 ...

Where #+ would be the unique (and as yet unused) identifier for an application
line, APID would be for the application to identify lines that were for it,
and PR#1 etc would be the parameters for the application.
APID's would work in a similar way to Cookies and XBRA id's in that ones that
begin with an '_' would be reserved for Atari applications (Maccel etc).

This would mean that application and accessory configurations could be saved
in DESKTOP.INF and reconfiguration take place with shel_get/put. (I know the
buffer has a maximum size TOS 1.0-1.2 1024, TOS 1.4 4096)

If Atari have not got this in mind already perhaps they would like to give it
some serious consideration. Anyone else like to comment?
