[comp.sys.atari.st.tech] 32,768 color upgrade to Mega and having problems

cliff@jarthur.Claremont.EDU (Clifford Stein) (02/02/91)

I was thinking of performing Mr. Barry Orlando's 32768 color upgrade on my
Mega ST2 (Motherboard Rev. .5.0) and the chip I found is not the Shifter
chip he says I'd need. He lists part number: C025914-38A.

I have what I think is a Shifter chip, but he part number on the chip, which I
pulled from a newish 1040ST (it came with Mega TOS) is:

C07013-002
(C)ATARI 1987
-31 I10356-01
8821KRR

Am I totally hosed?

Also, he says (in the text file posted a while ago) if my RAM chips were
slower than 120 nanoseconds, then I'd have to do something else. The chips
in my computer are: M411024HP
		    -15C*(M) AT&T
		    11187 74
Does anyone know what speed they are?

One more thing, Mr. Orlando says:
"Three wires are installed from the color board to three vias (trace thru
holes) located nearby on the motherboard."

What is he talking about? I didn't see anything like that at all in the
1040ST. Is there anything equivalent I should be aware of in doing this on
my Mega 2?

Will I have to do anything truly different in this upgrade compared to doing
it to a 1040ST? Please let me know.
