[comp.sys.atari.st.tech] Daisy-chaining ACSI drives

(apologies if this topic has already been mentioned too many times)

I'm running into difficulties connecting a Megafile 60 (type SEA5065)
and a Syquest removable drive to my 1040STE. I have the Megafile set to SCSI
#0, and the Syquest, plugged into the Megafile, set to #1, yet I'm unable to
read data from the Syquest. Both drives work fine if connected to the STE by
themselves. I tried flipping the DIP switch marked "X" in the Megafile, which
then allowed me to access the first 130 sectors in each partition on the
Syquest, but the rest of the disk is still unreadable. I have the feeling
there is something else I need to do to the MegaFile, but my manuals are
absolutely no help on the problem.

Internals: Megafile 60 appears to use an Adaptek 4070 board with a
Seagate ST277N-1 drive; the Syquest drive and controller plug into a
later-model Supra ACSI/SCSI board. I've been attempting to use Supra Utilities
v3.00 with both drives. I have access to Atari HDX 3.02, but was under the
impression the Atari hard disk utilities couldn't deal with multiple drives -
and, furthermore, Supra recognizes the Syquest at SCSI #1 while Atari doesn't.

The ACSI-to-SCSI board that's inside a Megafile (60, 44, etc) expects BOTH
SCSI DRIVES TO BE UNIT 0. And, as you found out, you have to change one of
the DIP switches to enable the second unit.
