[comp.sys.atari.st.tech] STE - medium rez booting

jharres@sleepy.bmd.trw.com (02/20/91)

I just got my STE and per the suggestions on here I opened the DESKTOP.INF
to change the 12 to a 13 on the 5th line. However, there wasn't a 12 on the
line. It had a 2 as it's 3rd character. So I changed it to a 3. Now when
I boot I get MED rez as the original fix was to do. Why the difference (
between 12 and 2)?  TOS vers  1.6

Okay, here's the beginning of my DESKTOP.INF file.

#Z 01 C:\AUTO\NEODESK3\NEOLOAD.PRG@
#a060000
#b000000
#c???000?000<000?00;;400;0;;;4440??0;;?0?;0;;;0??03111103
#d
#E 90 13
#W 00 0D 02 01 1E 15 00 @
#W 00 00 00 0C 15 09 00 @
[stuff deleted]

Minus the first line, which tells TOS to boot NeoDesk, the fifth line
down reads #E 90 13 and before I changed it, it read #E 90 12.
Actually, the 1 has to do with something else, but I thought
mentioning 12 was a better idea than just 2 since some of the other
values could also have been 2. To tell you the truth, I have no idea
why yours was just 2 as the third character. I'd just say, as long
as it works, don't worry about it. ;^)

Well, I found out the cause of the difference mentioned above but not the
reason. I was changing the DESKTOP.INF file from my 1040 ST (with TOS 1.0)

ST  line 5  =>  #E 9B 02
STE line 5  =>  #E 99 12

Anyone know what the changes to the STE DESKTOP.INF line 5 are for?
