[net.ham-radio] Emergency Power

Rich Schmalzbach [USAISC Appl. Engr.] <schmalz@yuma> (02/02/85)

Other than the normal ideas of batteries, generators, and / or solar panels
which may not work to efficiently in your area, I normally end up back to old
fashioned batteries. Gell-cell or lead-acid when used in parallel fed by a
small current sensing battery charger has worked time and time again.

Basically, the batteries are always supplying power to your rig. However, a
charger working off normal house power is left connected. The batteries acting
as a filter (the AC 60Hz hum), as the charge is diminished the charger senses
it and kicks on, thereby keeping the batteries at a constant charge. Should
house power fail you continue to run off the batteries without any break in
service.

                              Other than that Good Luck....
