[comp.sys.atari.st.tech] > Adjusting the SM124

You have to open the monitor. I've found an article in an old STmag which
discribes how to dow it: Get some plastic screwdrivers (metal would cause
some induction). On the main board you'll find some potentiometers and one
adjustable inductor (plastic drivers) . They have numbers on it, and i'll
give you a short explanation:

VR 602 (V.Size) for the total height

L 702 (H.Size) for the total horizontal size

VR 603 (V.Line) for vertical picture distortion
(trigger only, when objects on the edge of the screen
(upper/lower edge) aren't ok, but in the middle)
L 703 (H.Line) for horizontal picture distortion

VR 601 (V.Hold) for a 'standing' picture
changing this poti will cause the picture to run from
                 upper to lower edge

VR 701 (H.Center) to center the picture horizontally on the screen

VR 703 (Focus) ATTENTION! High Voltage (600V) this is for the sharpness
                 of the picture

VR 702 (Sub Bright) this is the default value for the brightness, don't change
                  it.

Last some hints:
mark the initial value with a marker
  notice every steps you're doing

Have fun!
Gregor

Offers a good explanation of the adjustments on the mono monitor, including:
> VR 701 (H.Center) to center the picture horizontally on the screen

Don't forget the mechanical centering rings on the yoke. They are metal rings
with tabs on them. They should be adjusted for centering before the electrical
adjustments are done. Remember the yoke has high voltage on it too (not
thousands, but hundreds). These must be experimented with, since they don't
simply adjust "up-down" or "left-right". They adjust "all-around", and must
both be played with together to get the right effect.

while we're on the subject. . .
since I've increased the size ofmy sm124's screen, the picture is
a little unstable laterally. it varies from dead on center to right up against
the left side of the crt. anything that can be done about that?
