hi !!! Damn, you have 256MBit RAMs cheap!! Man, did the Russians sell them to you? We can only manufacture them in volume in 1999. Sorry for the nerd humor. You meant 256kBit RAMs. In any case, your 1040ST currently has all the RAMs it can handle. The ST architecture can handle up to two banks. A bank consists of 16 256kBit DRAMs or 16 1MBit DRAMs. Therefore, an ST memory can be 512 kBytes, 1 MByte, 2MBytes, 2.5 MBytes or 4 MBytes. That's it. RAMs with an access time less than 150 nSec will be of no additional value. So dude, you're stuck. You need to use 1 MBit DRAMs either by purchasing a commercial upgrade board or removing the 256kBit babies and do some drilling to fit the 1MBit mamas into the same holes in the PCB. Please consult a qualified Atari technician. A street price for one 256kBit DRAM at 120 nSec is $1.95 (up from $1.45 in early December). However, 120 nSec 256kBit DRAMs cost less than their 150 nSec counterparts. Later.
