I know this is probably on the most frequently asked questions list (or should be), but I need to expand the RAM on my 1040ST. Does anybody have any recommendations on what RAM upgrades are available, which are the best bets, or if there are any clear cut winners, or maybe some that I should avoid? Are there any that allow you to upgrade even more with SIMMS later on down the line? I would appreciate any input on this matter. I never thought back in the days when I "upgraded" my TRS-80 to a whopping 48K (full capacity) that I would ever ever have a computer with 1 meg... and still not have enough memory to do what I want (grin). =============================================================================== /\ | / / \ | /\ Kelly Larson /\ / \ /\ | / / \ | /\/ kellyl@hpgrer.com.hp / \/ \ \/\| | /-\ /-\ | |\/ \ Hewlett Packard/Greeley / / \ / | | / / /__/ | |/ \/ 303-350-4288 / / / | \ / / | \ / COLORADO! / | \ / / | ===============================================================================

Hi Kelly, Upgrades will typically cost from $250 (for 2m) to $400 (for 4m) with usually either a JRI (uses SIMM's) or a Zubair (uses DRAM's) upgrade board; these prices may or may not include installation. Also if you want to upgrade to TOS 1.4 at the same time (a very good idea), that would be around another $100 for TOS 1.4. Sounds expensive, doesn't it?! Well on the other hand you could buy a brand new 2m 1040STe with TOS 1.6x for $500 (or a 4m 1040STe for $600!); then sell your older 1040ST for around $200. Price wise, you end up spending about the same amount of money buying a new machine as you do upgrading your old machine; the difference being, you end up with a better machine. I hope that I helped at least a little, bye...........
