How has any experience in adding a dive st506 into the atari megafile 60. I've heard this will go on using the maxon bhdi (or else) driver polling additonal drives on the same ASCI port. The upgrade is easy and is described in the book. In short: - use a 3.5" drive (5.25" drives won't fit) - use the second 20 pin connector on the controller board for the ST506 data bus; the control bus is shared - remove one of the two terminator packs - make a small modification on the controller board (phone or email me for details) - get software that knows how to access the second drive (for example, see above) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Claus Brod, Am Felsenkeller 2, Things. Well, I haven't tested exactly st506, but I've tested other RLL drives in my megafile60, and there's nothing more to do than to unplug the old drive and plug in the new one. Easy :-) Erling. -- _______ _____ o ____ Erling Henanger /___ /____/ / / /| / / Norwegian Institute / /\ / / / | / | ___ of Technology. (NTH) ------ / \ /____ / / |/ \____| o Atari Lives !

As to connecting two sets of bus lines: 1) I simply bought these flat cables from a shop (adding the second drive to ADAPTEC board is a common practice in IBM PC world). 2) One or two of the 20-pin data bus had been disabled and had to be cut and enabled. 3) finding suitable a mounting kit and additional power supply required some inventiveness but I managed. 4) Minix-ST presupposes the existence of unit 0 lun 1 and ICD's TOS driver just works fine. Sorry, I haven't even tried to use the driver that came with my Megafile. Hope to have been of some help. Dr Y. Tsuji (ytsuji@jpnwas00.BITNET)
