[comp.sys.atari.st.tech] Atari 520STE Power Supply

Hello Atari fans...

I was asked to have a look at a friend's atari 520-STE which had died,
it had a severe power supply fault which involved the main
fuse blowing in a rather impressive manner. I am assuming at this stage
that the transformer is at fault (a resistance test seems to confirm this).
However the problem is that the transformer is a rather strange looking
beast which may well be impossible to source here in oz. I rang the
Australian parts distributer who claim that they can only supply the
power supply as a whole and they want AUS$170 for it. Now I reckon that this
is a bit steep as I can pick up a whole machine second hand for about
AUS $400.

What I was wondering was if it would be possible to source the transformer
overseas, or perhaps the whole power supply at a reasonable price. At this
stage I am open to suggestions. If anyone in Oz has any ideas
that would be even better.

Thanks in advance...
