[comp.sys.atari.st.tech] RAM UPGRADES AND SOFTWARE GLITCHES

asplundm@physc1.byu.edu (06/21/91)

This is probably an easy question to answer, but not being an Atari
Guru . . .

I have a 520STfm, which I have upgraded to 2.5 M with the Z-ram board, and
Samsung 80 ns 1 megabit chips (it is the 3-D board and eventually I want to
put the other 2 megs in). It seems to work all right, and the z-ram Ram test
program passes the memory, but I have some software problems.

There are several programs which fail to work, unless I use E-disk (the Ram
Disk program) to create a 2 M ram disk which effectively gets rid of my
upgrade.

1. The Note Wizard, Scale Master, Chord Magic and Rhythm Time programs from
MIDImouse magic refuse to run at all.
2. Drachen (the public domain Mah Jung game) runs for a while, and then gives
me 4 or so bombs.
3. El-Cal, a mathematics program, runs, but gives problems with window and
memory management.

All of these problems go away if I mask out the new memory, but this is a stop-
gap solution. Does anybody have any ideas? I have considered putting Tweak
on the MMU, board and Video Shifter contacts, and replacing the contacts, but
this problem seems might intermittent for such problems. If anybods has any
ideas, please E-mail them.
