BULLETIN NR 15 FROM ARRL HEADQUARTERS NEWINGTON CT MARCH 7 1984 TO ALL RADIO AMATEURS WE MAY HEAR THE US XQ BEACON IN A FEW WEEKS. THE 145 MHZ BEACON IS ACTUALLY ON BUT IS VERY WEAK AND ONLY MOONBOUNCE RECEIVING EQUIPMENT CAN HEAR IT. THE SATELLITE WILL BE COMMANDED FROM CALIFORNIA AS SOON AS A COMMAND DECODER IS SHIPPED FROM ENGLAND. WE HAVE TWO THINGS IN OUR FAVOR. FIRST, IT DOES NOT TAKE A LOT OF POWER TO COMMAND THE SATELLITE AND SECOND, THE SATELLITE IS PROGRAMMED TO SHUT OFF THE BEACONS IF IT HAS NOT BEEN COMMANDED IN 21 DAYS.
