To all PVWave users: PVWave 3.01 has a CGM metafile driver. Some people here at Los Alamos are trying to use the CGMs for output, so far without success. The CGMs that PVWave generates do not follow the ANSI standard in several important respects. PVWave also generates incorrect output in some cases. (We have two CGMs, one with a 512x512 cell array, which looks OK; the other with a 398x361 cell array which looks bad.) There seem to be problems with both with the binary and the clear-text encodings. I've reported all the CGM defects that I've found to Precision Visuals and they are looking at the problems. The developer group there is said to be working on the problems, but it is too early to tell when the problems will be corrected. I'm sure the VIS'90 conference next week will keep things from happening that soon. In the meantime, I've told users here at Los Alamos to stick with the Sun raster file output, or to use a screen dumper to get images directly off the screen. Pat McGee, jpm@lanl.gov
