But suppose a ham is walking down the street, and a Trooper whose just broken his mike cord trying to draw his gun passes by. How's he going to know that the ham is a ham with his HT in the grocery bag that he's carrying? Shouldn't we all be required to wear sandwich signs with our calls when we're not in the car, and get our employers to put neon signs on the side of their buildings that can be turned on when we're there? I don't need to rationalize my desire to have call plates. The forms of recognition that I get when I help out with a public service event mean more to me than my call plates, though, and they're something I can't just go buy on account of having passed my FCC exam, as I can with call plates. 73 -Bill KE1G
