ntp-request@TRANTOR.UMD.EDU (07/21/90)
There seems to be extra copies of messages being fowarded to the NTP mailing list from mis-configured USENET sites. In a recent list of moderated newsgroups, it was incorrectly stated that the comp.protocols.time.ntp newsgroup was moderated, and that the moderator's address was ntp@trantor.umd.edu. This is incorrect. The comp.protocols.time.ntp newsgroup is not moderated. Really. I'd like people to check two things: If you run news, make sure that the comp.protocols.time.ntp newsgroup is marked as unmoderated in your sys file. This will cause you to NOT send messages to the 'moderator'. If you have aliases for moderated newsgroups, make sure that you do not have an alias for comp-protocols-time-ntp on your system. This will cause mailed articles to the moderator to not be forwarded to the mailing list. Sorry for the difficulty. If the problem is not resolved this weekend, I will disconnect the USENET gateway and (sigh!) manually screen the messages. I hope it won't have to come to that. louie a.k.a. ntp-request@trantor.umd.edu
