I have logged a couple dozen of what I believe to be MOORE RTTY stations on HF. They are usually sending what sounds like 2 alternating "idle" characters most of the time. Also, the transmission is definetly synchronous and about 50 baud. I have asked before if anyone really knows who these stations are, and exactly what format is used (I heard that every other character is reversed, ie; one character has a 4/3 mark to space ratio and the next has 3/4). I would like to build a converter to eavesdrop on these guys so any info would be helpful. Bob K9EUI

I suspect that the two characters you are hearing are 'RY' repeated over and over. This is a standard test pattern idle character combination, used by lots of wire services. On the subject of RTTY, I'm looking for good deals on converters, and software for a TI99 (which I have just laying around the house), if anyone knows anything good. -JCP-
