[comp.protocols.time.ntp] Busted chimes

Mills@udel.edu (11/19/90)

Folks,

Rather a lot of primary timetellers are down due various causes.
These include clepsydra.dec.com, down for module replacements,
wwvb.isi.edu, down for manual restart after putting in a route
to DARTNET, timer.nta.no for unknown cause, timer.unik.no for
manaual reboot after software upgrade, apple.com for unknown
cause and norad.arc.nasa.gov for out of tolerance (>500 ms).
A secondary at SURA, clock.sura.net, advertised in clock.txt hopefully
will shortly come to life, having been born clock.umd.edu.

Checking loads, I see that the NSFNET secondary servers have doubled
the number of peers since last I checked, but at 60-80 per machine
there is lots of horsepower left. The primary machines have still some
cycles left, but their accuracy has slipped somewhat due to the
intense bombardment of well over one packet per second (average). We
still need secondary server volunteers, especially on the Pacific
coast and overseas.
