Mr. Clarke's note prompts me to make clear the relationship with Traconex: I contract with them, from time to time, to do maintenance on PSTI firmware. I make a little money from it, but not much. Mostly I stay on this list because I'm in love with the topic. Time is such a slippery thing; the more I worked at PSTI, the more I realized this. Answering the simple question "What time is it?" is very hard! There are witticisms: "Time is nature's way of making sure everything doesn't happen all at once." But it's unclear if anyone really knows what "time" is, what it means to have "time", why the arrow of time only points one way, and all these other philosophical questions we argued about into the wee hours as college sophomores. We never answered the questions, did we? We just tired of rehash- ing them. So the old year ends and a new one starts. We've learned a bit, and we know, more than ever, how much more there is to know, and how little we really understand. What time is it?
