[comp.protocols.time.ntp] Time Source clock and ntp

david@llustig.UUCP (12/28/90)

I'm sure Dr. Mills will be happy to speak for ntp's capabilities. The Time
Source clock currently ships with V04.01 firmware. Changes from V03 include a
different display sequence at power-up and reset, a new method for diagnosing
RS-232 port problems, and, perhaps most important for ntp, new error and drift
controls to remove output timebase discontinuities. (No more milli-second time
quakes, I believe.)

Contact Bob Young at Traconex, Inc., 1140 N. Kraemer Blvd., Suite G, Anaheim,
CA 92806, phone +1 714 632 9510, to get a firmware upgrade and a new manual. I
don't know if the error and drift enhancement impacts ntp's ability to use the
Time Source; you should find out if ntp prefers the older firmware, for some
reason. (And please tell me, since I seem to be maintaining the firmware now!)

1.) It's of interest to me, since I have to buy two clocks in the near
future. I have a borrowed Spectracom, but the two serial ports and
    hardware building is a drag.

2.) The fact that a clock manufacturers employee reads this group is of
    interest.

3.) Wesley should have been sold to the Borg as a source of spare parts.
