[comp.protocols.time.ntp] CHU clocks HELP!

aspgpas@cidsv01.cid.aes.doe.CA (Peter Silva) (01/12/91)

As a sysadm at a Canadian Internet site setting up NTP, I am interested
in using
the canadian standard clock (CHU) as the reference. Perusing
clock.txt, I found the only CHU clock to be at UofT, and it appears
to be un-reachable from my site (ping doesn't :-). I've written to the
contact at UofT: a deafening silence ensued...

I'm currently running NTP in test mode syncing to WWVB clocks. As far
as I can tell (not very well), CHU and WWVB appear to be in good agreement.

Since there is no CHU site at present, I am interested in setting one up.
Is there anyone out there who knows about setting up radio clocks,
with a particular interest in one to receive CHU signals. Technical and
cost info are both wanted. Sources for clock H/W would be great too!

Peter,

Dennis Ferguson, intrepid UT clocker, has not been heard for some
longish eons. He is/was the keeper of CHUtick, xntp and the meanest
dedicated silicon NTP chimer in town. If you do manage to toll
his bell, wean away a copy of his 68000 board and modem, then
bring up your own CHU chu. Paal Spilling (paal@nta.no) in fact
cloned Dennis' silicon sans modem for use in Norway. Last I
heard Paal could't toll his bell either; however, if you can't
find Dennis, who when last seen was wandering the CA*NET fijords,
try ding Paal for info.
