We have a Sun 386i running SunOs 4.0.2. I have compiles ntp and could not get xntpd to stay alive. What is strange is that ntpdate works! I have run ntpdate against a few servers to find valid server to put into my /etc/ntp.conf file. I have even compiled ntp with debug mode on but when I run xntpd -d all I get is 0 ticks and 0 something and it quits. Any ideas anyone? I have resorted to using rdate every hour on the half hour because of my xntpd problem. Ouch. Also, if anyone knows of someone on another conference who could help me then I would deeply appreciate this message being forwarded to him or her.
